I haven’t blogged for a while due to one thing or another but something happened to me yesterday that wasn’t very good at all and I felt like I needed to write it down!!
I won’t go into full details but the basics are while I was at a community meeting for a community project I was subjected to personal verbal abuse by a very horrible person, this person also made personal reference to me having an illness and it was obvious they didn’t believe I was ill because I look normal!!!. After the initial shock and upset this all had on me I have now come out of this angry!! Angry that I didn’t have the strength to say more yesterday instead of just walking away crying and angry at this person for the sheer ignorance of what was said. I have over the years come across people who have seen my body before the illness and didn’t understand but I have never come under such a vicious attack before and it really threw me.
So why write this blog ……….. well I want to raise awareness again of invisible illness. Just because someone ‘doesn’t look sick’ doesn’t mean they aren’t !! There are hundreds of illnesses that are crippling to the sufferer but doesn’t necessarily render them obviously ill or wheelchair bound. Don’t just jump to the conclusion that because they are stood up and walking that they aren’t in pain, don’t assume that because they are smiling that they aren’t in pain, and don’t assume that because you think they don’t look sick that they aren’t in pain !!!
Yesterday’s events have had a huge impact on me physically too,
I was so drained by it yesterday I actually felt like I had been hit by a huge truck, and I am so fatigued and in pain this morning that I am going to struggle with simple things like housework today. My hope is that someone reads this and takes note so that this doesn’t happen to someone else. If I could just potentially stop one potential bullying attack then my job has been done !!
